1464609 Making sintered infiltrated bearings DRESSER INDUSTRIES Inc 9 Sept 1974 [10 Sept 1973] 39272/74 Heading C7D [Also in Division E1] Sintered ferrous bearings infiltrated with an antigalling material used in rotary rock bits are made by pressing at 35-40 t.s.i. a powder mixture of low carbon Ni steel or stainless steel and sufficient graphite to give 0À04-1À5%C. The compact is sintered at 2050‹F for 40 mins. to a density of 50-95% theoretical and then infiltrated with 85% Ag-15% Mn alloy at 2050‹F. The infiltrated compact is then case hardened by pack carburizing at 1700‹F for 12 hours, heating to 1470‹F for 1¢ hours and oil quenched.

one
The invention relates to a drilling rig. engineering, in particular to roller cone bits for rotary drilling.
A roller chisel is known, which contains the working part of the cones and supporting elements, and the support consists of a lock ball bearing, a tapered roller bearing and a tapered bearing with cylindrical rollers
The disadvantage of this bit is that the bearing system used in it has unsatisfactory performance properties in terms of rotary drilling.
The closest to the proposed technical essence and the achieved result is a roller bit, containing three shanks, forming bits in the assembly, the lower end of each of which is made in the form of anaph, in which the working part with cutting elements is installed, and a bearing system including bearings sliding and rolling
; The disadvantage of this bit is the low service life of the bearing system and the bit.
The purpose of the invention is to increase the service life of the lot.
The goal is achieved by the fact that the bearing system is made
5 in the form of a series of ball bearings, support and guide bearings and anvil plate, the anchor and guide bearings and anvil plate made of sintered iron-based material impregnated with one of the materials selected from the group of: silver, silver alloy, babbit.
FIG. 1 shows a roller cone
15 chisel, general view; in fig. 2 - one third of the bit along with the bearing system.
The jet-type rolling bit includes a kojus 1 having an upper
20 is a threaded portion 2 for connecting the bit to the lower end of the rotary drill string (not shown). On the box. In this case, there are three almost identical brackets 3, and in FIG. one
25 shows two of them. The three tapered crowns 4 form a working part with cutting elements 5 and are rotatably mounted on three bearing pins mounted on brackets. Each of the crowns
contains cutting elements on its outer surface, which are intended to destroy the rock, I cut, the forming elements are presented in the form of inserts of tungsten carbide or fe in the form of steel teeth.
The bit includes a central channel b, extending along the central axis of the body, for passing a drilling fluid in the upper part of the drill string through the bits.
The lower part of each of the brackets forms a pin 7, on which a glass 8 of a crown is mounted.
The bearing system includes p ball bearings 9 that hold a glass of a crown on a pin. The ball bearings are inserted through the hole 10 in each bracket and an insert 11 is placed in this hole. In each of the brackets and in the trunnion a channel 12 is made to feed the lubricant from the lubricant tank 13. Additional channels 14-16 serve to supply lubricant to the bore 10 and to the bearings. To hold the lubricant in the reservoir 13 on the bracket, the cap 17 is mounted so that the channel 18 connects the internal cavity of the reservoir 13 to the outside of the bit. A flexible diaphragm 19 serves to hold the lubricant fluid and at the same time compensates for pressure fluctuations. The flexible gasket 20 contacts the station 8 and seals between the cup and the trunnion, preventing loss of lubricant and contamination of the well materials with it.
A sleeve bearing 21 and a guide bearing sleeve 22 are located on the inner surface of the sleeve. A thrust plate 23 is installed on the bottom of the glass. The sleeves 21 and 22, as well as the plate 23 are installed in the glass for a tight fit. The surfaces of the sleeves and thrust plates have areas with alternating wear-resistant material and material that is resistant to mechanical corrosion.
Bushes 21 and 22 Iuporn's plate 23 is made of sintered iron-based material (low carbon, nickel steel or stainless steel, steel) impregnated with silver, silver alloy (.85% silver and 15% manganese) or babbitt. The material of the bearing sleeves 21 VI 22 to the thrust plate has an increased wear resistance (high hardness in co-i combination with high antifriction properties).
Chisel works as follows.
In operation, the bit is connected as the bottom element of the row of drill rods and lowered into the borehole until the conical crowns (cutters) 4 touch the bottom of the drill hole. The crowns are rotated in the respective trunnions 7. The drill fluid flows down the internal channel of the drill rods and is fed through the central channel 6 of the bit, passing through the nozzle to the bottom of the borehole, and then up into the annular space.
Under conditions of operation, the bit is exposed to high pressures, temperatures, and a corrosive environment. The implementation in the bit bearing system of bearing elements made of sintered antifriction material Q reduces heat dissipation and increases the corrosion resistance of bearing elements and, accordingly, increases the life of the bit.
Thus, from the batch of bits of the proposed design, the yield from the drill is 6.1%, while from the same batch of bits of the known structure, the drill bits yield from 30.2%.
